The Department of Modern and Classical Languages, Literatures & Cultures at the University of Kentucky (Lexington, Kentucky, USA) invites applications for a tenure-track position as assistant professor of French and Francophone Studies and Arabic Studies to begin Fall 2019. We encourage candidates with a focus on Francophone North Africa, but candidates with other regional specializations are also encouraged to apply. The successful applicant’s tenure home will be in the Department of Modern and Classical Languages, Literatures & Cultures, a dynamic academic unit committed to interdisciplinary collaboration among faculty with diverse geographical interests, theoretical concerns, and methodological approaches.

Applicants must have a PhD in hand by August 2019 in French and Francophone Studies, Near Eastern Studies, or a related field.

Responsibilities of the position include pursuing an active research program in some aspect of the humanities or cultural studies broadly understood. A demonstrated record of excellence in teaching language is expected. The successful candidate will, like all department faculty members, be expected to regularly contribute to the department’s core and cross-disciplinary curriculum; the teaching load is 2/2 (typically 3 courses in French and Francophone Studies, 1 course in Arabic Studies; cross-listing is possible). Other expectations include native or near-native fluency in English, French, and Arabic.

Applicants must submit the following: 1) letter of application, 2) CV, 3) research statement (upload under Specific Request 1), 4) writing sample, 5) teaching portfolio that must include a teaching statement that discusses philosophy, successes, experiments, etc., sample course syllabi, and representative teaching/course evaluations (upload under Specific Request 2), and 6) a statement on inclusivity (upload under Specific Request 3): As a department and university, we are strongly committed to creating an inclusive and effective teaching, learning, research, and working environment for all.
